MUSIC IS EVERYTHING
This is DJ Blush's mantra – forever and always.
Brittney Townson-Labovitz grew up in Toronto, Canada in a house where the radio was on at all times. She obsessively absorbed anything and everything that she could. Mom loved Soul, Blues and Rock'N'Roll. Dad loved Folk, Disco and 80’s New Wave. Brittney's musical loves and influences spanned all genres and eras, even from a tender age. Today, this translates into every single one of her DJ sets and events, and she consistently strives to amalgamate all the things she loves about music: soul, energy, and most importantly, joy!
In 2006, Brittney made her break in the Toronto night life scene writing concert reviews and interviewing bands for various blogs and magazines. She began hosting and throwing events, all while playing synthesizers in a local band. It was only natural for her to end up a DJ – her deep love of all things music, parties and good times landed her the gig taking over Shake A Tail at Clinton’s Tavern in 2010 as the co-creator of Bangs & Blush. She threw one of Toronto’s most prominent 60’s Soul dance parties there for the next 5 years: Shake Rattle & Roll.
During the Bangs & Blush era, Brittney was nominated two years in a row for Now Magazine’s annual BEST OF special edition under the BEST DJ category in 2013-2014, she was featured and interviewed in publications such as The Grid, She Does The City and Product Magazine, and was even mentioned on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon by Oscar-winning actor Brie Larson.
Since 2015, Brittney has been flying solo as DJ Blush and things have been on the up and up! In 2021, DJ Blush won the Now Magazine Readers Poll category for BEST LOCAL DJ, she is about to start her 10th consecutive season at Budweiser Stage as the in-house resident DJ (where she provides tunes for every single show for the entire season, and has since 2014) and hosts gigs nearly every weekend online on or in-person at one of Toronto's many beautiful dance venues and bars.
From 2015-2020, she programmed and threw events every single Friday & Saturday night as the resident DJ and booker at the legendary Rolling Stones Theme Bar Stones Place, which we unfortunately and recently lost due to Covid. From her Saturday Night Jukebox Dance Party, to 80's Mixtape Dance Party, MY BAD, Beatles VS Stones, Hold Tight!, Soul Kitchen, SIKE! and more, it's been an honour for Brittney to throw dance parties of all eras and genres for years and years around the city of Toronto. She has also been blessed with a whole new fan base since hosting online events on such platforms as Twitch and Mixcloud during the pandemic. The music will never stop.
DJ Blush has had the utmost pleasure and privilege to perform and host residencies in countless incredible and legendary venues, bars and spaces in the Greater Toronto Area over the years, such as Stones Place, The Drake Hotel, Swan Dive, Sneaky Dee’s, Freeplay Toronto, Houndstooth, The Mod Club, Supermarket, The Bovine Sex Club, The Soho Club, The El Mocambo, Clinton’s, Adelaide Hall, The Rivoli, The Garrison, The Red Light, The Gladstone Hotel, The Monarch Tavern, The Painted Lady, Harbour Sixty Steakhouse, The Wheatsheaf Tavern, The Toronto Harbourfont Centre, The Review Cinema, Canadian Stage and many more.
She's DJ'd special events such as The 2018 AGO Massive Party, SheDoesTheCity 10 Year Party, Canadian Music Week, Toronto Jazz Festival, a few SickKids Hospital fundraisers, multiple DJ Skate nights throughout the city – and let's not forget opening up for Echo & The Bunnymen at The Phoenix and St. Vincent at The Sony Centre!
